Glossary: key words explained
Quick definitions of every term you'll see.
The two roles
Creator
The person who builds and sends an experience. If you're planning a day for someone, that's you. A creator can't play their own experience — the creator and the player are always two different people.
Player
The person who receives the code and walks through the experience on their phone. They don't need to know anything about how it was made.
Guest
A player who joins a free experience with just the code, without signing up. An account is created for them quietly in the background so they can play right away. At the end, a guest can save their memory by adding an email. See The memory wall and saving it to your account.
The building blocks
Experience
The whole multi-step journey a creator builds for one player — a proposal, a birthday, an anniversary, a scavenger hunt, a “just because” day. The player unlocks it one step at a time and ends at a memory wall.
Step
One stop on the path. Each step has a name, a description, and an unlock method, plus an optional photo, hint, and location. Steps are revealed one at a time. An experience can have up to 10 steps.
Unlock method
How a player moves from one step to the next. There are four:
- Just be there — the player taps a button to confirm they've arrived. (On the menu where a creator picks it, this is called No Action; the player sees an I'm here button.)
- Enter a code — the player types a word or number the creator chose. (On the menu, Enter Code.)
- Write a response — the player writes a reply before continuing, and it's saved to the memory wall. (On the menu, Enter Response.)
- Timed unlock — the step opens by itself at a set date and time. (On the menu, Enter Time.)
Code
The word or number a player must type to pass an “Enter a code” step. The creator sets it; capitalization doesn't matter. Not to be confused with the activation code (below). See Set the code for a code-locked step.
Hint
An optional, gentle nudge attached to a step. It's hidden until the player taps + SHOW HINT, so it's there only if they want it. Hints can be up to 400 characters. See Add a photo or a hint.
Location
An optional place attached to a step — an address or map pin. The player sees a tappable link that opens directions in their maps app.
Cover photo
An optional image for the whole experience, just for the creator's own reference. It's cropped to a square.
Sending and connecting
Activation code
The short code (eight characters with a dash) a player enters to connect to an experience. The creator creates it by activating the experience, chooses how long it stays valid, and shares it by text, in a card, or on a printable card with a QR code. It works once and then expires. See Send the activation code.
Activate
The moment a creator locks an experience and creates its activation code, ready to send. Before activating, an experience is a draft. See Edit, reorder, and the draft-to-live lifecycle.
QR code
A square, scannable pattern on the printable activation card. Scanning it with a phone opens the experience's first step in one tap — no typing.
Draft
An experience that's still being built and hasn't been activated yet. While it's a draft, the creator can change anything. A creator can keep up to 5 drafts at once.
During and after play
Memory wall
The keepsake page a player reaches after finishing the last step. It gathers every completed step — photos, descriptions, and anything the player wrote — into one page they can save as a PDF. See The memory wall and saving it to your account.
Nudge
A short message a creator can send to a connected player during the experience — a gentle “keep going” without spoiling what's next. It arrives as a text (if the player has set that up) and also appears in the experience on the player's screen.
Live feed / dashboard
The creator's home base. It groups experiences by stage (draft, ready, live, completed) and, while an experience is live, shows the player's progress in real time.
Plans
Basic, Elevated, Subscription
The three plans. Basic is free and runs one experience without alerts. Elevated adds text and email alerts for a single experience. Subscription is a monthly plan that runs up to three experiences at once and adds the memory archive. See Which plan do I need?, and the pricing page for current prices.
AI assistant
A paid feature that turns a few answers into a ready-to-edit draft experience. It sketches the steps; the creator adds the photos, codes, and final wording. See Draft an experience with the AI assistant.
