Set the code for a code-locked step
Pick the word or number your recipient has to type.
Before you start
- You need a step whose unlock method is set to Enter a code. See Add a step if you haven't done that yet.
Steps
- In the step editor, open the step (or start a new one) and set How does this step unlock? to the code option. A box labeled Code to accept appears.
- Type the code you want your player to enter. It can be a word, a number, a short phrase — whatever fits your clue (for example,
SUNDAY). - Select Save step. The code is saved, and the step now shows a CODE TO ACCEPT line so you can see it at a glance.
Tips
- Capitalization doesn't matter. If you set the code to
SUNDAY, your player can type “sunday,” “Sunday,” or “SUNDAY” and it will work. - Keep it easy to type on a phone. Short, clear codes work best — avoid tricky punctuation or characters that are hard to find on a mobile keyboard.
- Make the code findable. The whole point is that your player can work it out — from a sign, a date, an inside joke, or the step's hint. Set a hint for when they're stuck.
- You can change the code anytime before the step is completed. Open the step, edit the Code to accept box, and save again.
If something goes wrong
- “An unlock code must be added” → The code box was empty when you tried to save. Add a code and save again.
- Your player says “The code does not match” → They typed something different from what you set. Capitalization isn't the issue (it's ignored), but extra spaces or a different word will be. Double-check the exact code on your step, and make sure your clue points clearly to it.
