Connect to an experience with a code

How to join, including playing as a guest with no sign-up.

Before you start

  • You need the activation code the person sent you. It's eight characters with a dash, easy to type and easy to text.
  • A phone (or any device) with a web browser. There's nothing to download.

Steps

  1. Open the connect page in your browser. The person who made your experience will point you there — it's the page that says “Someone made you something.”
  2. In the box, type the activation code they gave you. (If they gave you a printed card with a QR code, you can scan that instead and skip straight to the first step.)
  3. Select Begin. Your first step opens and you're connected.

That's it. From here you move through the experience one step at a time. See Unlock and complete a step.

Do you need an account?

It depends on the experience. There are two ways in.

Play as a guest — no signup

For many experiences you can play as a guest with just the code — no email, no password, nothing to sign up for. The connect page says: “You can play as a guest, no signup needed.” Enter the code, select Begin, and you're walking through it.

The one thing to know: a guest session lives on the browser and device you're using. If you switch phones, you'd lose your place. At the end, you'll get the chance to save your memory by adding an email — see The memory wall and saving it to your account.

Sign in first

Some experiences ask you to sign in (or create a free account) before you can start. If yours does, you'll see a message: “This experience needs a Xpereans account. Sign in (or create one) and we'll bring you right back.” You can sign in with email or Google.

Your code stays in the box while you sign in, so you won't have to retype it when you come back.

Even when it's optional, signing in keeps your memory saved across devices — so if you want to revisit it later or switch phones, signing in first is the safe choice.

Tips

  • The code is single-use and time-limited. Connect when you're ready to start. Once you connect, the code is used up.
  • Scanning beats typing. If you got a printed card, scanning the QR code drops you straight onto the first step.
  • The whole thing runs in your browser. There's no app to install — just keep the page open as you go.

If something goes wrong

  • “Please enter the activation code.” → The box was empty. Type the code and select Begin.
  • “Your code has expired, please have the creator generate a new activation code.” → The code's time window has passed, or it isn't recognized. Double-check you typed it exactly, then ask the person who made your experience to send a fresh code.
  • “Your code has expired or has already been used, please have the creator generate a new activation code.” → Someone has already connected with this code (codes work once). Ask for a new one.
  • “You are the creator of the experience you can not connect as the player” → You're signed in to the account that built this experience. The creator and the player are always two different people — connect from the recipient's device, or have them connect from theirs.
  • “This experience needs a Xpereans account…” → Sign in or create a free account with email or Google. Your code is kept for you, so you'll come right back to it.
