Send the activation code to your recipient

Text it, write it in a card, or print the QR card.

Before you start

  • Your experience must be activated. The activation code only exists after you activate. See Create your first experience for how to activate, and Which plan do I need? to choose a tier.
  • Have at least one step in your experience. A player can't connect to an experience with no steps.

Where to find the code

When you activate, a banner confirms your code: “Your new activation code is: …”. The code is eight characters, easy to type and easy to text. You'll also see it on your dashboard next to the experience.

There are three ways to share it.

Option 1: Send the code as text

  1. Copy the activation code from your dashboard.
  2. Paste it into a text message, an email, a chat — anywhere you'd normally send a short note.
  3. Tell your player to go to the connect page and enter the code. See Connect to an experience with a code for what they'll do.

Option 2: Write it in a card

  1. Write the activation code by hand in a birthday card, a note, or a letter.
  2. Add a line telling them where to enter it (the connect page on their phone).

The code is short on purpose, so it's quick to copy out and quick for them to type in.

Option 3: Print a card with a QR code

This is the “leave it under the coffee maker” option — a printed card they can scan to jump straight to the first step.

  1. Open your experience and select Print activation card (or Print activation).
  2. A printable card opens. It shows your experience name, the activation code in large type, and a QR code. Under the QR code it reads “TO PLAY: Scan the code above, or go to …” with the web address.
  3. Select Print to send it to your printer, or use your browser's print dialog to save it as a PDF.
  4. Hand it over: slip it into a card, leave it on a pillow, or tuck it in an envelope. When they scan the QR code, the first step opens in one tap.

How long the code stays valid

When you activate, you choose how long the code stays good for. The options are:

  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours
  • 4 hours
  • 24 hours

After that window passes, the code expires and your player won't be able to connect with it. If that happens, you can generate a fresh one (see below).

The code is one use only. Once a player connects with it, it can't be used again.

Tips

  • Match the validity window to your plan. If you're handing the card over in person and they'll scan it right away, a short window is fine. If you're mailing a card or hiding it for later, pick a longer one (up to 24 hours).
  • Generating a new code replaces the old one. If you activate again to get a fresh code, the previous code stops working. Only share the latest one.
  • The printable card needs a live code. If the code has expired, the card won't print — activate again first to get a new code.

If something goes wrong

  • Your player sees “Your code has expired, please have the creator generate a new activation code.” → The validity window passed, or the code was already used. Activate the experience again to mint a new code, then send the new one.
  • “Activate this experience first to get a code to print.” → You tried to print the card before activating, or the code expired. Activate the experience, then open the print card again.
  • Your player sees “Your code has expired or has already been used …” → Someone has already connected with this code (codes are single-use). Generate a new code and share it.
