Create your first experience

From a blank page to a ready-to-send day, step by step.

Before you start

  • You need a Xpereans account. You can sign up with an email and password, or with Google.
  • Have a rough idea of the day you want to create: a few places, moments, or clues. You don't need it all figured out — you can edit everything later.

Steps

  1. Sign in and go to your creator dashboard. This is your home base, where all your experiences live.
  2. Select + New experience. A page titled “Name the day” opens.
  3. In the Title field, type a working title (for example, “Maya's birthday day”). Only you will ever see this name, and you can change it later.
  4. Optionally pick an Occasion chip (Birthday, Proposal, Anniversary, and so on) and add a Cover photo. Both are optional and just for your own reference.
  5. Select Create & start adding steps. Your new experience opens in the step editor.
  6. Add your first step. In the editor, fill in a Step name and a Description (what your player will read when they get there). Choose how the step unlocks under How does this step unlock?, then select Save step. See Add a step for the full walkthrough of each unlock method.
  7. Repeat until your path is complete. You can add up to 10 steps. Add a photo, a hint, or a location to any step as you go.
  8. When the experience is ready, activate it. In the editor's Activation panel, select Activate & send code and choose your plan. Activating creates your activation code. See Which plan do I need? to choose a tier.
  9. Send the code to your player. Text it, write it in a card, or print a card with a QR code. See Send the activation code.

That's it. Once your player enters the code, you'll see their progress live from your dashboard.

Tips

  • You don't have to finish in one go. Your experience saves as a draft until you activate it, so you can come back and keep building.
  • Not sure where to start? Try the AI assistant (a paid feature) to generate an editable first draft from a few questions. See Draft an experience with the AI assistant.
  • Want a head start with a ready-made shape? Browse the templates gallery and start from a blueprint — it seeds an experience with example steps you then make your own.
  • On the free plan you can build up to 5 steps before you activate. To go past 5 (up to 10), activate the experience first.

If something goes wrong

  • “You must purchase an experience before you can create more drafts.” → On the free plan, you can keep one unpaid draft at a time. Activate your current draft, then start another.
  • “You can not create more than 5 draft experiences.” → You've hit the limit of 5 drafts at once. Activate or remove one before starting a new one.
  • Your photo won't save → Cover photos are cropped to a square. If you see “Something went wrong with the image upload please try again,” re-upload and make sure your crop is square.
